Most ministers and biblical teachers use the term "Battle of Armageddon" to reference the last and great battle between Good and evil as well as the end of the world. The term "Armageddon" even as stated in the dictionary is stated as the place where the final battle will be fought between the forces of good and evil, but is this a correct definition? The reason for this study is to come to the truth concerning what is called the Battle of Armageddon so let's take a look at what the bible states concerning this subject and when and where this battle will occur. Yes let's check the bible and answer the question and not just go along with what some preachers have stated and let's check to see if it is in fact the last and great battle before the end of the world? Some may ask what is the point and why would it really matter what is the truth concerning the term "Battle of Armageddon". This study is important because the truth leads us to a good understanding with a solid foundation and not just some wild speculation on important subjects concerning prophecy! You will also find photos and maps in this study that will help make the scriptures and history much more clear.

The first important lesson we must study is the valley's of Jerusalem so we can decipher which valleys God will use and how He will use them. The facts you will learn in this study is that God will "Gather" all Nations in one valley and defeat them in another. Let's start with what is called today Har Megiddo - (The hill of Megiddo) which is the very place referred to as Armageddon. It is also known as Jezreel Valley. The city Megiddo known as Tel-el-Mutesellim (Hill of the Ruler) has been identified as one of the most important cities of biblical times. A total of 20 cities were built at Megiddo, one above the other, over the course of 5,000 years of continuous occupation; from the time of the first settlement at the end of the 6th millennium BCE to its abandonment in the 5th century BCE. Megiddo continued to serve as the seat of the royal governor during the reign of Jeroboam II, king of Israel. This is attested to by a seal, found in excavations at the beginning of the 20th century, bearing the inscription "to Shema, servant of Jeroboam." During the rebellion of Jehu, Ahaziah, king of Judah, fled to Megiddo and died there of his wounds. (II Kings 9: 27) Megiddo was apparently conquered and destroyed in 732 BCE, during the campaign of Tiglath Pilesser III, king of Assyria, against the Kingdom of Israel. (II Kings 15: 29) (NKJ throughout)

The Last Days of Megiddo:
The Assyrians made Megiddo the royal city of their province in the north of the conquered kingdom of Israel and rebuilt it in their finest architectural tradition. An orthogonal grid of streets divided the city into quarters. In the south of the city, a round, subterranean stone-lined silo, 11 m. in diameter, with two narrow flights of stairs along its sides, was found. At the end of the 7th century, apparently during the reign of Josiah, king of Judah, a rectangular fortress was constructed on top of the eastern side of the tel, but it remained in use only until Josiah's fall in 609 BCE, when it was destroyed. In his days Pharaoh Necho, king of Egypt, went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: and king Josiah went against him; and he slew him at Megiddo, when he had seen him. (II Kings 23: 29) From then on, Megiddo fell into decline; it was finally abandoned during the Persian rule, in the 5th century BCE. Some information is from; the Jewish virtual library.

Valley Of Megiddo today

The valley of Jehoshaphat:
The Valley of Josaphat (or Valley of Jehoshaphat) is mentioned in only one passage of the Bible, in Joel 3.2. We will go into these scriptures latter in this study. The reason it is believed that the last great battle before The Messiah brings in His kingdom to rule all Nations will be fought in the valley of Jehoshaphat is because the valley which is named after King Jehoshaphat an ancient King of Judah defeated his enemies, not by his own might, but the almighty God fought for them and defeated their enemies. Jehoshaphat was a son of Asa who succeeded his father as king after his death. It starts in I King 15:24. "So Asa rested with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the City of David his father. Then Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place." Research shows that Jehoshaphat was 35 years old when he became king, and he reigned for 25 years in Jerusalem. The story goes while Jehoshaphat was King of Judah, Jerusalem was attacked by a number of their enemies such as Moab, Ammon, and Seir which are known today as the Palestinians as we see in the book of Chronicles. It states in 2 Chr 20:1-4 that King Jehoshaphat proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah and called upon the Lord God to help them defeat their enemies and as we will see God answered Him greatly. Let's read it, "It happened after this that the people of Moab with the people of Ammon, and others with them besides the Ammonites, came to battle against Jehoshaphat. Then some came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, "A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from Syria; and they are in Hazazon Tamar" (which is En Gedi). And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. So Judah gathered together to ask help from the LORD; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.

Now we find on down in 2 Chr 20:14-22 where God answered their fasting and prayers. "Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly. And he said, "Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Vs. 15 states...Thus says the LORD to you: 'Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God's. Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel. You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!' Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you. And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem bowed before the LORD, worshiping the LORD.

Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with voices loud and high. So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper. And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: "Praise the LORD, for His mercy endures forever." Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. Notice the very important statement in vs.15 "Thus says the LORD to you: "Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God's." The battle was not won because of a great army of men but because the battle was fought by the Lord God of Israel. Now we have learned that the Valley of Jehoshaphat was named because of the Lord fighting for His people but can we find a prophecy that ties King Jehoshaphat's experience with the end of the world?

Let's start by reading what is recorded in Joel 3: 1-21. It states; "For behold, in those days and at that time, when I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem, I will also gather all nations, and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; and I will enter into judgment with them there on account of My people, My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; they have also divided up My land. They have cast lots for My people, have given a boy as payment for a harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they may drink. Indeed, what have you to do with Me, O Tyre and Sidon, and all the coasts of Philistia? Will you retaliate against Me? But if you retaliate against Me, swiftly and speedily I will return your retaliation upon your own head. Because you have taken My silver and My gold, and have carried into your temples My prized possessions. Also the people of Judah and the people of Jerusalem you have sold to the Greeks, that you may remove them far from their borders. Behold, I will raise them out of the place to which you have sold them, and will return your retaliation upon your own head.

I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans, to a people far off; for the LORD has spoken. Proclaim this among the nations: "Prepare for war! Wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near, let them come up. Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears; let the weak say, 'I am strong.'" Assemble and come, all you nations, and gather together all around. Cause Your mighty ones to go down there, O LORD. "Let the nations be wakened, and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; for there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations. Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, go down; for the winepress is full, the vats overflow-- for their wickedness is great. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. The sun and moon will grow dark, and the stars will diminish their brightness.

The LORD also will roar from Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; the heavens and earth will shake; but the LORD will be a shelter for His people, and the strength of the children of Israel so you shall know that I am the LORD your God, dwelling in Zion My holy mountain. Then Jerusalem shall be holy, and no aliens shall ever pass through her again and it will come to pass in that day that the mountains shall drip with new wine, the hills shall flow with milk, and all the brooks of Judah shall be flooded with water; a fountain shall flow from the house of the LORD and water the Valley of Acacias. Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom a desolate wilderness, because of violence against the people of Judah, for they have shed innocent blood in their land. But Judah shall abide forever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation. For I will acquit them of the guilt of bloodshed, whom I had not acquitted; for the LORD dwells in Zion." Joel 3: 1-21.

The first thing we notice is that this prophecy is of a time far into the future because of the statements starting in vs. 2 which states… I will also gather all nations, and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; and it states that God is judging with wrath against the enemies of His people. We also see a very important statement in vs. 12 which states "Let the nations be wakened, and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; (which is as we learned earlier a Hebrew word for (Jehovah-judged.) for there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations." We also see in the above scripture this statement The sun and moon will grow dark, and the stars will diminish their brightness and that the heavens and earth will shake. So we see here that this is a time of great judgment on ALL nations and is yet future.

The question is can we relate this to other prophecies?
The answer is that we can look in the book of Zechariah and see this very end time prophecy being described. Let's read it. "For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; the city shall be taken, the houses rifled, and the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, but the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Then the LORD will go forth and fight against those nations, as He fights in the day of battle. And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west, making a very large valley; half of the mountain shall move toward the north and half of it toward the south. Then you shall flee through My mountain valley, for the mountain valley shall reach to Azal. Yes, you shall flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Thus the LORD my God will come, and all the saints with You. It shall come to pass in that day that there will be no light; the lights will diminish. It shall be one day which is known to the LORD-- neither day nor night. But at evening time it shall happen that it will be light. And in that day it shall be that living waters shall flow from Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and half of them toward the western sea; in both summer and winter it shall occur. And the LORD shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be--" The LORD is one," and His name one." Zech 14:2-9

The statement . "And the LORD shall be King over all the earth." Denotes that this is a prophecy of the end of the world as we know it. Also we see here in this prophecy the location being the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east, which is the Kidron valley as you will see from the map below. Now can we find this elsewhere in prophecy and if so where and how is it used? Let's look in the book of Revelation for more information concerning this time of the end. We find in Revelation chapter 16 that there will be seven angels that will pour out seven bowls of judgment on the dragon, the false prophet, and the seat of the beast power. This scripture in vs. 12 states..."Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. "Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame." And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon." Rev. 16:12-16.

Notice that the above scripture in Rev. 16:12-16; stated "to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty" which denotes that the army's will be (gathered) there which is Har- Megiddo in the valley of Megiddo or (Valley of Jezreel,) but the defeat of the army's of all these nations will be in the Valley of Jehoshaphat, or what is known as the Kidron Valley as we found in the prophecies above. Now this word Armageddon can only be found in this one scripture throughout the entire bible however the location can be found under the name we studied earlier called the valley of Megiddo The Kidron Valley or valley of decision where the army's will be defeated is a valley near Jerusalem. The Kidron Valley runs along the eastern wall of Jerusalem, separating the Temple Mount from the Mount of Olives. It then continues east through the Judean Desert, towards the Dead Sea. The settlement Kedar, located on a ridge above the valley, is named after it. The neighborhood of Wadi Al-Joz bears the valley's Arabic name. The Valley is the site of many Jewish tombs, including the Pillar of Absalom, the Tomb of Bene Hezir, and the Tomb of Zechariah. At one time, the water of the Gihon Spring flowed through the valley, but it was diverted by Hezekiah's tunnel to supply water to Jerusalem.

We can also find scripture that states Jesus crossed the Valley of Kidron many times, and very interestingly on the evening when Jesus went with his disciples to Gethsemane and was betrayed by Judas. It states in John 18:1-3; "When Jesus had spoken these words, He went out with His disciples over the Brook Kidron, where there was a garden, which He and His disciples entered. And Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the place; for Jesus often met there with His disciples. Then Judas, having received a detachment of troops, and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons." Jesus was betrayed where He will return in victory!

So we see that this is where prophecies show the end of our system will occur which include the return of Elijah, followed by the arrival of the Messiah, and the beginning of the thousand year rule of the Messiah. This however is not the final battle and the end of the world. The final battle is after the thousand year rule of the Messiah Jesus (God's Son) when Satan will be loosed for a little season and gather Gog and Magog against the cities of God. It states in the book of Revelation; "Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them".Rev 20:7-9. Notice that this scripture does not state in any way that they will gather at the valley of Megiddo but rather on the breadth (Width) of the earth.

A quote from Darrell G. Young from; "Focus on Jerusalem Prophecy Ministry"
"Today, the enemies of the God of Israel are calling for Israel to be "wiped off the map", and are coordinating in a league effort to empower a network of evil designs to hasten the world's encroachment down into the Valley of Decision. The Islamic Mullahs, and the current Iranian President hope that they can hasten the day of Allah by coordinating a giant onslaught against Israel, but little do they realize that they are acting in conjunction with the designs of Satan. They are deceived, and their demonic princes are leading them to fulfill God's call for them to gather into the Valley of Judgment, for the harvest of the wrath of Almighty God is nearly ripe, and their wickedness against his anointed is great. The heathened of Satan's conspiracy are awakened, and they are intent on parting God's Land, and preserving it for another. But as the Day of Battle looms, the sickle of the Lord is readied! The Day of Decision is NEAR, and its Valley still stands at the crossroads of human history! Ironically, many of Israel's enemies today are the same national entities that contended with Jehoshaphat over Jerusalem, and the present children of Israel need to be remindful of how their forefathers way back in the Valley of Jehoshaphat, looked to the Lord for guidance, and trust in His words, and not heed the brilliant and clever false-peace enticements of the coming Antichrist!" End Quote

The time of the end is approaching and all Christians need to wake up and quit playing church. We need to get very serious if we are to follow the true Messiah in this time of the end. The word of God gives a list of warnings for our time. You will find much of this listed below so we can be aware of the warning message.

First let's look at a list of some things that must come to pass JUST before the return of The Messiah and a look at the 'marks' of Antichrist, gleaned from the Christian/Hebrew bible.

1.) Denies that the Father in heaven can have a Son, which denies the only way to salvation. I John. 2:22-23
2.) Sets himself up as God and sets in the temple of God. Dan. 11:36-37 and II Thess. 2:4
3.) Takes over the holy city Jerusalem. Rev. 11:2
4.) Worships a God never before worshipped. Dan. 11:38 (See "God of this age.")
5.) He is a false prophet producing lying wonders and false miracles. Matt. 24:11-24
6.) He is a man of sin full of lawlessness. II Thess. 2:3
7.)There will be a great falling away (Great Apostasy) and the Antichrist will be revealed. II Thess. 2:1-12
8.) He will set up a kingdom which will spread ultimately Worldwide. The nations of the world must unify their currency onto a universal standard. There will be a one-world government, to correspond to the beast of Revelation, prior to the Antichrist's government. This will include a one world banking system as well as a one world military to enforce their laws. Rev. 13:3-4
9.) Beheading those that he considers his enemies; mainly those of Christianity and Judaism. Rev. 20:4 - Matt. 24:9 - Rev. 13:15. 10.) Beheading in the name of his God thinking he is called to do so. John 16:2
Still powerful at Christ's return, and can only be destroyed by the returning Messiah. Rev. 17

Some End time Scriptures:
Mark 13:32-37. "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming-- in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning--lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!"

Acts 2:17-21. 'And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'

2 Tim 3:1-5. "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!"

Mark 13:7-8. "But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows."

Matt 24:5-7. "For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places."

Matt 24:8-12. "All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake, and then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold."

II Th 2:3-4. "Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God."

2 Pet 3:3-4. "knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation."

Mark 13:12-13. "Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. And you will be hated by all men for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end shall be saved."

Mark 13:21-23. "Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'Look, He is there!' do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. But take heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand.

Matt 24:14. "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come." (This is a prophecy of the coming two Great Witnesses.) Rev 11:6. "These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy; and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire."

Matt 24:32-33. "Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near-- at the doors!"
1 Pet 4:7-10. "But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins." Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."
Matt 28:18-20. "And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

Rev 13:15-18. "He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666."

Rev 15:1. "Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous: seven angels having the seven last plagues, for in them the wrath of God is complete."
