There are some that have become confused about the order of King Solomon’s birth and state some research information in my article titled “The Divinity of Jesus” is wrong in stating that King Solomon was the first born surviving son of King David by Bathsheba thus Solomon was in line to receive the throne from his father David. They assert that 1 Chr 14:4 proves that Nathan was born before Solomon because Nathan was listed here before Solomon was.    “Is this true?”

This can be confusing however we have to look deeper to find the truth and not just make an assumption because the writer or translator made an error. The scripture in question states… “And these are the names of his children whom he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon.” Yes the names here are showing Nathan and then Solomon however if you remember the first child that Bathsheba bore by King David died because of his adultery and killing of Bathsheba’s husband Uriah. The records show that right after the child died King David went into his wife Bathsheba and lay with her. So she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. We see here that Solomon had to be born before Nathan the brother of Solomon because Solomon was born right after the “first child” King David had by Bathsheba so the order in the other scriptures listing the four children must be out of order.
